1. The Himalayas act as a great climatic divide affecting large systems of air and water circulation. They determine climatic conditions of India.
2. They protect India by preventing very cold and dry Arctic winds from entering India in winter. This keeps India free form subzero temperatures in winter.
3. They also obstruct the passages of the south-westerly monsoon winds and force them to give up most of their moisture within India. So Indian gets good rainfall. During winter, the Himalayas cause heavy snowfall in their mountainous areas.
