1. Due to the diversified habitat and ecosystem, the wildlife in the Rajasthan Desert is very rich in contrast to the other deserts of the world.
2. There are about 23 species of lizards and 25 species of snakes in the region. Several of them are found all over the region.
3. Some wildlife species, such as the Blackbuck, the Indian Gazelle (chinkara) and the Indian wild Ass in the Rann of Kachchh, which are fast vanishing in the other parts of the country, are found here in large numbers.
4. A subspecies of Red Fox and wild cat, the Caracal, are also found in the Rajasthan Desert.
5. It is a habitat for about 140 species of migratory and resident birds of the desert. One can see birds of prey like eagles, harriers, falcons, kestrels, buzzards, vultures, etc. Peacock, the national bird of India, is also seen here in villages.
