3/y – 4 = y

(iv) 3/y – 4 = y
Sol. 3/y – 4 = y
Multiplying throughout by y, we get,
3 – 4y = y2
– y2 – 4y + 3 = 0
Changing the sign,
∴ y2 + 4y – 3 = 0
Here a = 1, b =  4, c = - 3  are real numbers
where a ≠ 0

So it is a quadratic equation in variable y.
