A coin is tossed. Find the probability of the events. (i) Getting a head (ii) Getting a tail.

Solution:
Since a coin is tossed,
Sample Space = {H, T}
n(S) = 2

(i) Let A = Event of getting a head
∴ A = {H}
∴ n(A) = 1

∴ P(A) = n(A)/n(S)
∴ P(A) = ½

(ii) Let B = Event of getting a tail
∴ B = {T}
∴ n(B) = 1
∴ P(B) = n(B)/n(S)
∴ P(B) = ½
