Find the value of discriminant for the following. x2 - 4 √ 3 x + 4 = 0 .

Solution:
The given quadratic equation is x2 – 4√3x + 4 = 0

By comparing with standard quadratic equation of ax2 + bx + c = 0, we get
a = 1, b = - 4√3 ,  c =  4

Now, Discriminant = ∆ = b2 – 4ac = ( - 4 √3 )2 – 4(1)(4)
∆ = 16(3) – 16
∴ ∆ = 48 – 16
∴ ∆ = 32

∴ The Discriminant is 32.
