3. A die is thrown then find the probability of getting
(i) an odd number
(ii) a perfect square
(iii) a number greater than 3
Sol. When A die is thrown
S = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 }
n (S) = 6
(i) Let A be the event of getting an odd number
A = { 1, 3, 5 }
n (A) = 3
P (A) = n (A)/n (S)
∴ P (A) = 3/6
∴ P (A) = 1/2
(ii) Let B be the event of getting a perfect square
B = { 1, 4 }
n (B) = 2
P (B) = n (B)/n (S)
∴ P (B) = 2/6
∴ P (B) = 1/3
(iii)Let C be the event of getting a number greater than 3
C = { 4, 5, 6 }
n (C) = 3
P (C) = n (C)/n (S)
∴ P (C) = 3/6
∴ P (C) = 1/2
