Explain Mendel’s Monohybrid cross. Give an example.

Ans.

(i) Mendel made several crosses of pea plants involving only one pair of contrasting characters or traits. Such crosses are called ‘monohybrid crosses’.

(ii) He crossed red - flowered and white - flowered pea - plants as an example to study the monohybrid cross.

(iii) These red - flowered and white - flowered pea - plants were used as parents for crossing. They are said to be plants of P1 generation.
