What are Allotropes? Name any two allotropic forms of carbon. Give one use of it.

Allotropes are substances that exist in different physical forms but same chemical form.

Diamond and graphite are two allotropic form of carbo.

Uses: (a) Diamonds are used as precious stones in jewellery.

(b) Diamonds of inferior quality are used for cutting glass and drilling rocks.

(c) Graphite is used in making electrodes, as ‘lead’ in pencils and a lubricant.
