Forest cover is shrinking in the Peninsular Plateau region – Central Highlands.
Ans. (a) The Central Highlands region faces several environmental problems one of which is deforestation.
(b) The menace of indiscriminate cutting of trees has made the forest cover in this region shrink.
(c) Furthermore, thousands of hectares of valuable forest areas have been lost because of development projects, mining activities and transport development. Industrialisation and urbanisation have also taken place.
(d) An increase in agricultural activities has also led to deforestation. Thus, forest cover is shrinking in the Central Highlands of the Peninsular Plateau Region.
