1. The plantation agriculture requires vast farms and a long rainy season to raise cash crops like tea, coffee, coconut, rubber, etc.
2. In the northern parts of the Western Ghats, agriculture is confined to narrow valleys and moderate slopes where cultivation of only subsistence food crop like rice is possible.
3. The southern parts of the Western Ghats have a longer rainy season and moderately sloping hill region, which are well suited to plantation crops like tea and coffee. So, the plantation agriculture is mainly confined to the southern parts of the Western Ghats.
