On the basis of chemical nature, nutrients are of two types :
1. Inorganic nutrients : Plants get their nutrients from inorganic substances present in the soil and atmosphere through leaves and roots. They convert it into organic compounds through the process of photosynthesis. These compounds are used for growth and to form various parts of the plant.
2. Organic nutrients : They include carbohydrates, proteins and fats which are of animal and plant origin.
