(i) Planning is a mental activity, an intellectual exercise which involves intuition, imagination, foresight, ability to analyse information and sound judgement.

(ii) It is an intellectual activity of thinking rather than doing as it requires application of the mind.

(iii) Planning determines the action to be taken and such it requires logical and systematic thinking and not guesswork.
(iv) Intuition, Imagination, foresight, judgement and analysing information require thinking which must be orderly and based on facts and forecasts without which planning will not be effective

(v) The process of planning involves setting objectives, developing premises, identifying alternative course of action, evaluating alternative courses, selecting the best alternative plan and implementing the plan and follow up action. This entire process requires wound thinking. Hence, planning is an intellectual process.
