Write a letter to a Editor of a newspaper , commenting on the lotteries sponsored by various states in India .

Respected Sir ,
It is regrettable that several States of India have not stopped to deal in lottery tickets . Millions of poor people are tempted to buy these tickets in the hope of winning a prize . With the exeption of a few lucky individuals , they are bound to face disappointment month after month . It is paradoxical that the Government committed to the abolition of poverty should sponsor a scheme calculated to rob the poor of their hard – earned money .
It is argued that the money thus obtained from the people is spent on nation – building activities. But the government is not justified in adopting any means to raise money for nation building schemes .It must be realised that lottery  encourages gambling and demoralises the people . Mahatma Gandhi , the Father of the Nation , would not have approved of it .
The State Governments should ponder over the moral and financial impact of their  lotteries on the people , and scrap them forthwith .
                                                                                                                                                            Yours truly ,
                                                                                                                                                                    X.Y.Z.

Respected Sir ,
I wish to bring your notice a glaring instance of postal inefficiency.
My cousin who lives in Panaji sent an express telegram addressed to m e on 7 th November , 2000 . To my great dismay , the telegram was delivered to me at 11 a.m. today .Even  a letter  would have reached me earlier .
As my cousin was visiting Mumbai for the first time, he wanted me to receive him at Dadar station at 7 a.m. today. As the message did not reach me in time , he had to experience considerable inconvenience .
                                                                                                                                                         Yours faithfully ,

Write a letter to the Commissioner of Police , complaining about thefts in your locality .

Respected Sir ,
I am constrained to draw your attention to the growing menace of thieves in my locality .
The policemen is a rare sight in this crowded and growing locality .Taking advantage of the absence of the police around , some goondas are freely indulging in thefts and robberies . During this week as many as twenty thefts have taken place . No house which locked even for a few hours during the day is safe . Burglary too is on the increase . The other day four miscreants broke into a house and relieved the inmates , at the point of the knife , of all the cash and jewellery they had .
I request you to take immediate steps to stem this tide of insecurity .
                                                                                                                                                  Yours affectionately,

You have left a suitcase in a railway carriage . The case has neither your initials on – it nor your name on any of the articles in it . Write a letter to the Railway Superintendent about it .
Respected Sir ,
I would like to have your  help in recovering my black suitcase which I lost in a railway carriage of the Pathakot Express on the 10th September . I noticed the loss on reaching home .
I regret to say that there are no marks of identification on my suitcase or on the articles in it . This will surely make the recovery pretty complicated . However , I make some suggestions.
The black suitcase is made of leather . It is fitted with straps that have copper buckles . At the top left – hand corner there is a big white spot made by some chemical solution . There are inside three woollen suits , 3 silk shirts ( all white ) and plenty of novelties from Kashmir .
I do hope and pray that this information will suffice in tracing this suitcase . In case it is found , I will make the necessary arrangements to collect it as soon as I hear from you .
Thanking you in anticipation ,
                                                                                                                                          Yours faithfully ,

To your Employer requesting a promotion in view of the long and satisfactory service rendered.

Respected Sir ,
Having tried very earnestly to fit myself for advancement in your service , I now beg to be considered worthy for an increment in my salary and promotion as well . In support of my request , I beg to point out the following facts :
1. I have served you diligently for the last 5 years and  not absented myself from work or taken leave unduly .
2. The last promotion I received  was 3 years ago .
3. The cost of living has gone up enormously in the last 3 years , but there has been no annual increase in the salary I have been drawing from you .
4. I am capable of doing independent correspondence and managing all office work on my own .
5. No appreciation of my ability or length of service has been shown in the matter of emoluments .
I shall be much obliged if my case is given sympathetic consideration and I am given the required promotion . Promotion is , after all , the best incentive to harder work and greater diligence .
I hope for a favourable reply from you at your earliest convenience .
