Shivgad: Fort on the Coast of Maharashtra
(i) How to get there:
By road:
(a) The journey from Mumbai to Shivgad take 5 hours (210 km). regular MSRTC [ Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation ] buses run between Shivgad and Mumbai.
(b) Private buses and taxis also available regularly.
(ii) Where to stay:
You can stay at one of the MTDC [ Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation ] hotels or private hotels. Tariffs range from Rs. 100 to Rs. 450 per day for single room occupancy (Double bed with attached bath facility).
(iii) What to see:
(a) Shivgad: A fort built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, it still retains its grandeur. Sound and light show held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7 p.m.
(b) Sinhagad: Ruins of Shinagad, a minor fort.
(c) Kali Temple: An ancient temple which dates back to antiquity.
(d) Beaches: Shivgad is full of clean, delightful stretches of beaches with facilities for boating and swimming.
(iv) Special features of the place: Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated on a grand scale. Winter- the best season for tourists. Fish and rice preparations are the speciality of the region.
