Question 25.

Write short note on Electrical energy generation and environment.

Electricity generation can sometimes be harmful for the environment.

Answer:

Using fossils, natural gas and nuclear compounds to generate electricity can be harmful for the environment due to the following reasons-

- burning of fuels can release various toxic gases and particles which are dangerous for the environment and can cause major respiratory problems.

- Incomplete combustion can lead to the production of carbon mono oxide which is very deadly for human health.

- The increase in percentage of carbon causes adverse effects to the environment like the greenhouse effect.

- Fossil fuels like coal, crude oil etc, are limited resources. Once finished we will not be able to replenish them. These resources are going to deplete in the future.

- Nuclear wastes produced can prove to have adverse effects on nature and human beings.

To prevent these issues, environment friendly ways of electricity generation should be adopted. Perpetual sources of energy like water, sunlight, wind should be used in order to avoid the limitations and harmful effects caused by non-ecofriendly methods.
