Outline: Selfless people - we can please god by serving our fellow-being - Albert Schweitzer - Schweitzer proved by his actions that service to man is service to god.
Great and noble souls are usually selfless people. They believe in the ideal of service before self. Giving up all thought of personal comfort, they devote themselves to the service of their fellowmen. Such was the case with Christ, Gandhi, Vivekananda, and a host of others who dedicated themselves to the welfare of mankind.
If we love God and wish to serve Him, we must show our love for Him by deeds, not words. We can please God by serving our fellowmen. To do service, we have to take a lot of trouble. We must give up our comforts. We should be ready to sacrifice our time and energy to help others. This is just what Albert Schweitzer did in his attempt to be of service to humanity.
Albert Schweitzer had a bright future before him, for he was a lecturer and a talented man. Being kind-hearted and just, he realised that Africans were being ill-treated by white people. Such cruelty and injustice is hateful to God, for in the eyes of God, all men are alike. Schweitzer decided to practice the ideal of Service before Self. He was eager to serve God by serving the suffering humanity.
He worked very hard to give concerts in order to collect funds for his African mission. He faced several hardships very bravely. It was hard to put up with the hot damp Equatorial climate. Other things he patiently suffered were the ignorance and unfriendliness of the natives. He lived in a tent, ate the simplest food and devoted all his time to relieving the suffering of the sick natives. He served them faithfully and worked ceaselessly for their welfare. He thus served God by serving suffering humanity. He proved by his actions that Service to Man is Service to God.
