Solution:
(i) A – B = {3, 4, 6}
(ii) B – C = {-1, 5, 7}

B’ = {-3, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6)
A’ ∪ B’ = {-3, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
(iv) A’ ∩ B’
A’ ∩ B’ = {-3, 0, 1, 2}
(v) B ∪ C = {-3, -2, -1, 0, 3, 5, 7, 8}
(B ∪ C)’ = U – (B ∪ C)

(iv) (K ∩ L) ∪ (K ∩ M) and verify distributive laws.

(i) K ∪ (L ∩ M)
L ∩ M = {b, c, d, g} ∩ {a, b, c, d, h} = {b, c, d}
K ∪ (L ∩ M) = {a, b, d, e, f } ∪ {b, c, d) = {a, b, c, d, e, f}
(ii) K ∩(L ∪ M)

Question 3.
If A = {x : x ∈ Z, -2 < x ≤ 4}, B = {x : x ∈ W, x ≤ 5}, C ={-4, -1, 0, 2, 3, 4}, then verify A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C).
Solution:
A = {x : x ∈ Z, -2 < x ≤ 4} = {-1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4}
B = {x : x ∈ W, x ≤ 5} = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
C = {-4, -1, 0, 2, 3, 4}
A ∪ (B ∩ C)
B ∩ C = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5} ∩ {-4, -1, 0, 2, 3, 4} = {0, 2, 3, 4}
A ∪ (B ∩ C) = {-1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4} ∪ (0, 2, 3, 4} ={-1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4} …………. (1)
(A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C)
A ∩ B = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4}

(A ∩ B) ∪ (A ∩ C) = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4} ∪ {-1, 0, 2, 3, 4}= {-1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4} …………. (2)
From (1) and (2), it is verified that
A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C)

Verify A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C) using Venn diagrams.

From (2) and (5), it is verified that A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C)

If A = {b, c, e, g, h}, B = {a, c, d, g, i} and C = {a, d, e, g, h}, then show that A – (B ∩ C) = (A – B) ∪ (A – C).
Solution:
A = {b, c, e, g, h}
B = {a, c, d, g, i}
C = {a, d, e, g, h}
B ∩ C = {a, d, g}
A – (B ∩ C) = {b, c, e, g, h} – {a, d, g} = {b, c, e, h} ……..… (1)
A- B = {b, c, e, g, h} – {a, c, d, g, i} = {b, e, h}
A – C = {b, c, e, g, h} – {a, d, e, g, h} = {b, c}
(A – B) ∪ (A – C) = {b, c, e, h} ………..… (2)
From (1) and (2) it is verified that
A – (B ∩ C) = (A – B) ∪ (A – C)

If A = {x : x = 6 n ∈ W and n < 6}, B = {x : x = 2n, n ∈ N and 2 < n ≤ 9} and C = {x : x = 3n, n ∈ N and 4 ≤ n < 10}, then show that A – (B ∩ C) = (A – B) ∪ (A – C)
Solution:
A = {x : x = 6n, n ∈ W, n < 6}
x = 6n
n = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
⇒ x = 6 × 0 = 0
x = 6 × 1= 6
x = 6 × 2 = 12
x = 6 × 3 = 18
x = 6 × 4 = 24
x = 6 × 5 = 30
∴ A = {0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30}
B = { x : x = 2n, n ∈ N, 2 < n ≤ 9}
n = {3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9}
x = 2 n
⇒ x = 2 × 3 = 6
2 × 4 = 8
2 × 5 = 10
2 × 6 = 12
2 × 7 = 14
2 × 8 = 16
2 × 9 = 18

A – (B ∩ C) = (A – B) ∪ (A – C)

From (1) and (2), it is verified that
A – (B ∩ C) = (A – B) ∪ (A – C).
